What makes this more poignant is that Feathertop, along with many North East vineyards lost their entire 2020 crop to smoke taint. The nearby fires saw them evacuated. And then COVID 19 hit… They maintain a practice of minimal intervention in their grape growing which sees them hand picking, and running mostly without irrigation (just the new vines are watered to establish them).
They also choose to grow many different varieties of grapes rather than bulk plantings of a few, which increases the workload with crops ripening at different times, but allows them to produce small amounts of unique wines.
